Directions to Hobbit House from Kimberley Airport:

 

Approximately 150 Km’s from Kimberley Airport

 

From Kimberley, take the R64 to Bloemfontein. Continue on this road until you reach the N1 Highway. Turn left onto the N1 travelling towards Johannesburg. Take the next off ramp, off of the N1 onto Nelson Mandela Road. At the end of the off ramp, turn right onto Nelson Mandela Road into Bloemfontein. Proceed down Nelson Mandela for 4km. Continue on this road until you reach the 8th traffic light where you will turn left into Tweede Laan (Second Avenue) Klein Brothers/ Cecil Nurse is on your front right corner. Continue over the first set of traffic lights and at the third stop street, turn right into President Steyn Avenue and you will see the hotel on your right hand side ( 5th house).

 

 

Directions to Protea Hotel Golden Gate from Hobbit House:

 

Approximately 300 Km’s from Bloemfontein

 

Make your way back to the N1 highway. Take the N1 travelling towards Johannesburg. Continue on the highway until you pass the town of Winburg and take the N5 travelling towards Bethlehem. Continue on this road past Senekal and Bethlehem. Continue towards Harrismith. Turn right onto the R712 travelling towards Clarens. From Clarens, continue on the R712 travelling towards Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Continue on this road following the signs to the park. 

 

 

Directions to Didima Camp Cathedral Peak from Protea Golden Gate:

 

Option 1 - Scenic Route:

 

Approximately 160 Km’s from Golden Gate

 

CAUTION: Do not follow this route in wet or freezing conditions.

 

From Golden Gate, take the R712 travelling towards Harrismith. Turn right onto the R74 (Bergville/Oliviershoek Pass Road). Continue past Sterkfontein dam, down Oliviershoek Pass, straight past Bergville. As you leave Bergville, Cross the Tugela River Bridge, then turn right onto a tar road, signposted 'Cathedral Peak Hotel'. Travel about 20 minutes/17kms then turn right at sign post 'Cathedral Peak Hotel/ Emmaus'.Didima is about 20 minutes/30km at the end of this road.

 

 

Option 2 – Freeway Route:

 

Approximately 150 Km’s from Golden Gate

 

Please take note that you will be driving through a toll plaza en-route


Take the R712 travelling towards Harrismith. Continue on this road until you reach the N5. Take the N5 turn off to Harrismith. From Harrismith, take the N3 travelling towards Durban / Van Reenen's Pass. Continue on the N3 and take the first glide off after the Tugela Toll Plaza, which is at the bottom of Van Reenen`s Pass. Turn right over the Freeway and proceed for 38km to R74 junction. Turn left to Bergville and as you leave Bergville, cross the Tugela River bridge then turn right onto the tar road, signposted 'Cathedral Peak Hotel'. Travel about 20 minutes/17kms then turn right at signpost Cathedral Peak Hotel/ Emmaus'. Didima is about 20 minutes/30km at the end of this road.

 

 

Directions to Giants Castle Camp from Didima Camp Cathedral Peak:

 

Approximately 150 Km’s from Didima Camp Cathedral Peak

 

NB: The gate is only open from 05h00 until 19h00. Please contact the camp to arrange for late entry (charged at approximately R50.00). Tel 036 353 3718.

 

Take the road to Winterton and at Winterton, take the R74 travelling towards the N3 highway and Colenso. Take the N3 travelling towards Durban. Take the Estcourt turn off to the left and continue into the town of Estcourt. Loskop Road becomes Albert Street. At the third traffic light, turn right into Conner Street. Follow Conner Street past the Spar shopping Centre (Hellet Road) to White Mountain/ Ntabamhlope (the R29). At White Mountain, turn left to Giant’s Castle. Travel to the T-junction, turn right and follow the road to the Giant’s Castle Main Gate

 

 

Directions to Sani Pass Hotel from Giants Castle Camp:

 

Approximately 250 Km’s from Giants Castle Camp

 

Please take note that you will be driving through a toll plaza en route

 

Make your way back to the N3 highway. Take the N3 travelling towards Durban. Drive through the Mooi River Toll Plaza and continue until you reach Exit 99 to the Southern Drakensberg. Take this exit off the N3 and take the R617 to the Southern Drakensberg. Continue on this road to Underberg. In Underberg, turn off to Himeville and continue on this road past the village. Take the turnoff left to Sani Pass. Follow the signs to the hotel.

 

 

Directions to Lalaria Lodge from Sani Pass Hotel:

 

Approximately 280 Km’s from Sani Pass Hotel

 

Please take note that you will be driving through toll plaza’s en-route

 

Make your way back to the N3 highway. Take the N3 travelling towards Durban. As you approach Durban, take the N2 highway travelling North towards Stanger. Continue on the N2 until you reach the 212 off-ramp to Ballito. Turn right over the bridge into Shakas Rock Road. Travel for 3 km’s to a T-stop facing the sea. Turn left into Ocean Drive. Travel for 700 metres and turn left at the stop into Dolphin Crescent. At the top of the hill, turn left into driveway to “Lalaria” (Number 25A – very well sign posted).

 

 

Directions to Protea Hotel Simunye Zulu Lodge from Lalaria Lodge:

 

Approximately 180 Km’s from Lalaria Lodge

 

Please take note that you will be driving through toll plaza’s en-route

 

Make your way back to the N2 highway. Take the N2 travelling North towards Stanger. Take the left turn off at Dokodweni Toll Plaza. Join the R66 travelling towards Gingindlovu-Eshowe. Continue straight past Eshowe and towards Melmoth. Driving towards Melmoth you will pass Nkwalini and Oom Wessel Se Wenkel, 5 km before Melmoth, take a right turn joining the D256 gravel road. On this turn you will see a big ox wagon wheel and the sign saying Simunye 12 km. For 12 km you will drive on the gravel road to our arrival point.

 

 

 

Directions to Phinda Forest Lodge from Simunye Zulu Lodge:

 

Approximately 200 Km’s from Simunye Zulu Lodge

 

Take the R34 travelling towards Empangeni. Continue on the R34 through Empangeni and on towards the N2 Highway. Take the N2 travelling towards Mtubatuba and Hluhluwe. Staying on the N2, pass the towns of Kwambonambi and Mtubatuba, until you reach Hluhluwe. Take the “Hluhluwe” off-ramp, follow the directions into the town. Pass through Hluhluwe until you reach a stop-sign at a T-Junction. Take a turn to the left, following the False Bay and Sodwana Bay signboards. Cross over the railway line and continue along this road for approximately 30km. At the Mduku Crossing, take the D675 to your left - sign boarded to Phinda. Continue for 4km before you reach another T-junction and fence line. At this junction, take the D448 to the right and continue towards the Phinda Gate (4km).

Directions to Piggs Peak Hotel from Phinda Forest Lodge:

 

Approximately 352 Km’s from Phinda Forest Lodge

 

Please take note that at the border post, you will need to pay vehicle tax and you will need to hand in the authorisation form given to you by the car hire company.

 

Follow the exit signs until you get to a junction with main dirt road (still in the Reserve), turn left and follow dirt road back to the Boom Gate. Turn right (onto the D448) out of the gate and carry on with dirt road along the fence line.  After approximately 4km you will see a dirt road to the left with sign D675 – turn left into this road. After approximately 3km, the dirt road will have a short-tarred section before you get to a four-way stop intersection with the main tar road. Turn right onto main tar road towards Hluhluwe (turning left will take you to Sodwana Bay – this is signposted at the intersection). Continue on the tar road for approximately 30km until you reach a t-junction, just before reaching the T-junction you will cross over a railway track. At the T-junction turn left and continue for approximately 1 km entering Hluhluwe Town. Turn right at the first road after entering the town. Continue down this road through the town – by following this road you will reach the N2. Continue over the bridge and turn right to get onto the N2 travelling towards Mkuze / Johannesburg. Continue on the N2 past Mkuze and on towards Pongolo. Before Pongolo, turn right to the Lavumisa/Golela Border post to Swaziland (border post open from 07h00 until 22h00). Once you have entered Swaziland, head north on the main (MR8) road towards Big Bend. From Big Bend continue on the MR8 / MR3 towards Manzini.  From Manzini head towards Mbabane on the main highway (MR3). Continue through Mbabane and at Motshane turn right onto the MR1 travelling towards Piggs Peak.  As you reach Piggs peak, follow the signs to the hotel. (The hotel is on King Mswati II Highway , Piggs Peak) Note from Hotel: Please do not use the Barberton/Josefsdal/Bulembu road - the dirt road is in a very bad condition.

 

Directions to Malelane Sun Hotel from Piggs Peak Hotel:

 

Approximately 150 Km’s from Piggs Peak Hotel

 

Take the MR1 travelling towards the Matsamo/Jeppe’s Reef Border Post. Continue on this road and exit Swaziland (border post hours: 07h00 – 20h00). As you enter Mpumalanga (South Africa) continue straight on the R570 travelling towards Malelane. Continue past the N4 highway turn offs and continue straight towards Malelane Gate Kruger National Park. Continue past the Malelane Country Club, turn right just before the Malelane Gate to the Hotel.

 

 

Directions to Londolozi Private Game Reserve from Malelane Gate:

 

Approximately 211 Km’s from Malelane Sun Intercontinental Hotel

 

Please take note that you will be driving through a toll plaza en-route

 

Turn left onto the R570 and continue on this road until you reach the N4 turn off. Take the N4 travelling towards Nelspruit. When you reach Nelspruit, take the R40 travelling towards White River and Hazyview. At White River you will need to turn left in order to stay on the R40 travelling to Hazyview. When you reach Hazyview, take the R536 travelling towards the Paul Kruger Gate. After 37.4 km turn left onto a gravel road (1km after Lisbon store). Pay R60* per vehicle entrance fee at the Sabi Sands gate. (* These rates can only be confirmed at time of reservation and are subject to change). Follow Londolozi signs to camp (approx 28km).

Directions to Jatinga Country Lodge from Londolozi:

 

Approximately 110 Km’s from Londolozi Private Game Reserve

 

Once you have left the camp you should follow the exit signs to the boom gate. Stay on this road until you reach an 'intersection'. There are a few signs for other lodges. Continue driving straight with the fence on their right hand side. This is exit 1 to Shaw’s gate. At Shaw’s gate you will need to produce the exit permit which would have been given to you at the camp. Take the R536 travelling towards Hazyview. When you reach Hazyview, turn left onto the R40 travelling towards White River. At White River travel through two sets of traffic lights, at the third set turn left onto the R538 to Karino/Plaston and continue for 4.3 km from the last traffic light, crossing over two railway lines. Turn right onto the Jatinga Road (dirt road). Travel for 1.9 km to Jatinga gate.

 

 

 

Directions to the Johannesburg International Airport from Jatinga:

 

Approximately 363 Km’s from White River

 

Please take note that you will be driving through toll plaza’s en-route

 

Take the R536 back to White River. At White River, take the R40 travelling towards Nelspruit. When you get to Nelspruit take the N4 travelling towards Waterval Boven / Johannesburg. Continue on the N4 past Waterval Boven. Continue on the N4 past Belfast towards Middelburg/Johannesburg. Before the town of Witbank the highway splits into the N12 Johannesburg and N4 Pretoria. Take the N12 to Johannesburg. The N12 has various turnoffs, the ones nearer the airport being Springs, Benoni and Boksburg (1½ hr drive from Witbank - Boksburg). When you reach Boksburg you pass the Atlas Rd turnoff, and the Rondebult Rd turnoff. Within 500m of the Rondebult Rd turnoff is the R21 Pretoria/ Jhb International. Take the R21 North to JIA. You will pass the Griffiths Rd turnoff and Ceasars Casino on the right. Almost immediately after the casino take the off-ramp to the left marked R24 Jhb International. This will take you around a very sharp curve to the airport.
